Structuralism – Definition

Structuralism is a method of approach, and not a philosophy in itself, that has application in both linguistics and the social sciences :

– in linguistics : The theory of language is best dezcribed in terms of its irreductible structural units in morphology, phonology, etc.

– in social sciences : The view that the ley to the understanding of observed phenomena lies in the the underlying structures and systems of social organization.
